Hi Stephen,
I really like this idea of a Track Library, that, along with maybe showing a little information about who and where people are(maybe there could be an option in our profile where we can determine how much or little information about us is shared). It'd be good if you could see 'library tracks' that were within(say) 25 miles of your current (or home) location...
I'm not sure if it's how you intend TMJ to go, but developing and making more of this side of things might encourage a sort of community within TMJ. Maybe a new area in the Forum where people can discuss their tracks and exchange information and ideas, seperate from this section which is mostly technical questions/comments and bug notifications...

You never know, it could be the new Facebook...!! :)

Regards,

Chris.

Hi Chris,

Yes, the community building idea is definitely something that would be good for the site - in a way it was the main reason why I initially started TMJ nearly three years ago! Trouble was I then got 'distracted' with developing TMJ-Mobile, so the original intent became clouded!!

I can easily add more Forums to the site, I'll see how it goes once I've done the library pages (I still haven't even started on these yet, keep getting delayed!). The idea is to make the library easily searchable, so finding your local tracks should be straightforward (whether there actually are any or not in your area is another matter though). I was also thinking of having a 'track comments' section, where people can comment on others' tracks, similar I guess to YouTube video comments. So much to do...!

Cheers,
Stephen

Hello Stephen

i wdl welcome the idea of a publicly accessable track libary and a public live feed option. i have played with the mapmytracks package that has this and it is interestng to see who is out and about in the world. I prefer your package though as it seems to update more relieably and is also very light weight in terms of data traffic use. My main reason for using any package is to keep my wife informed of my location in case i fall off my mountan bike and are imobile.

however having it log my routes with little effort is a real bonus. i would be interested in the routes of others and hope they would be interested in mine.

As they say I like it so much i am thinking of paying the licence fee!!!

Thanks

Barry

Hi Barry,

Glad you've found TMJ useful! Its funny, I've still got it in mind to expand the track library idea but I can't believe its been 18 months since Chris started this thread and I've still got nowhere!!

Things have been pretty hectic recently, but I'll try and look into where I got with the library - I did do a fair bit on this a while back so there might not be too much more to do to get it working. For the moment you can still use the 'Track Privacy' option on each Track Info page to set individual tracks as 'Public and Listed in Library', then they should appear as soon as I've finished the library itself...

I'm not fully convinced of the need for a public live location feed (hence on the website Account/Settings/Permissions page this is disabled) - I suspect that most people wouldn't want this data to be made fully public, though I might be wrong. Anyhow, its still possible to share this via Invitations, Livelinks and the Settings/Friends function, which might fit your needs...?

Cheers,
Stephen

Indeed. I may be a bit on the paranoid side, but I'd never want to have my location (or movements history) public. I'm happy to share the life location data with individual people, which is already supported and seems to work fine. TMJ-mobile is my favourite software for the mobile and its compatibility is a major criteria for selecting a phone for me, but if TMJ started to disclose private info I would have to give it up :(

Hi Shchenka,

No, of course any tracks made public in the library would be entirely the choice of the individual user - everything is private by default. So long as your ACCOUNT/Settings/Permissions page has all the 'Public' options is set to 'No', and your individual tracks have their Info Page/Track Privacy set to 'Private', then you've nothing to worry about!! :-)

Cheers,
Stephen
