hi stephen,

could you please change menu text Clear Map Cache to something that would also tell user whether cache for raster or vector map is going to be cleared? i am also wondering what "current" means in Raster Map Source->Online->Reload Current Tiles. is that currently visible tiles or all cached tiles or something else?

cheers,

jose

Hi Jose,

The Clear Map Cache function actually clears both the vector and raster maps in one go, so I'm not sure that the text needs to be changed...?

The Reload Current Tiles essentially just reloads the visible tiles. However the mechanics of it are slightly different, as follows... The function deletes the current maps from memory (but not from the cache at this point), and also starts a 15 second timer countdown. The map view then realises that it needs to load the tiles again, however whilst the countdown is still active the tileloader code bypasses the cache and loads the tiles directly from the web, and overwrites the cache with the new tiles (the reason for doing it this way round is in case the internet connection drops out then at least the old tiles should still be available in the cache). So, in fact, if you were to scroll around the map within this 15 second period (and assuming that your internet connection is fast enough - ie WiFi), then other tiles would also be re-loaded.

Cheers,
Stephen

i would like to vote for an option to choose which of the caches will be cleared. let me explain. i use TMJ mainly for OSM mapping. for this activity it is vital to have as much detail and fresh data as possible. so i am using raster tiles when mapping. on the other hand, vector map is often useful to check the bus route or for that nice isometric view when navigating. i do not however need updates to vector map because it is not the map i am working with that much. load current raster tiles is nice, but if you're about to refresh a large area, it gets complicated..
