Hi there,

First of all, big thank you for providing the best GPS tracking software on the Net! I've tried a few out and this one wins hands down!

A quick feature request...

I'm planning on using trackmyjourney to provide live tracking for a banger rally across Europe in early September, and have used the LiveLink feature to show maps on our team site (http://www.externalharddrivers.co.uk/live-tracking).

This works like a treat.

What I would also like to show on our site is the days route so far (showing all recorded points) exactly like on the page accessed via "Devices" where you can select your tracks and show the plot on a map.

The absolute ideal would be a URL which can take a date as a parameter, and return a map showing all of the tracks from that date plotted onto a map. This can already be achieved manually, by following an invitation, selecting the required days tracks and hitting "Plot on Map".

Hope this is not too much to ask (I have no doubt there are more pressing features in the pipeline!)

Cheers,
Rob

Hi Rob,

I'll have to have a think about this. I'm a little reluctant to go down the custom URL route due to the large load this could place on the TMJ server - assembling the map, overlaying the points, and then compressing it as a JPEG/PNG file can take a while, especially if there are potentially many concurrent requests. By keeping it as a 'fixed' Livelink potentially allows the server to cache each link, reducing load.

I could possibly add a livelink that would show a summary map of the most recent track, which would at least allow you to display the current days progress on your site. How about then having a link to the Invitation URL from your live page, so people can still view the full historical track detail (via the TMJ site) if they want to?

Good luck in the rally - looks like it'll be a good laugh!

Cheers,
Stephen

Hi Stephen,

The live-link showing the most recent track would be excellent. I think this combined with a link to the livelink invitation would give us everything we want. I completely understand your reluctance for the custom URL approach and agree this would introduce unnecessary strain on your servers.

I'll see if we can get your URL on the car somewhere :D

Keep up the good work,
Rob.

Hi Rob,

I've now added another livelink type that shows a map of the most recent track, or those from the last few days.
Here's an example:

Hope you find it useful for your trip!

Cheers,
Stephen

Stephen,

That is fantastic. Exactly what we we're after.

Thanks a million,
Rob.
